Essay by Punnpa Suksakorn
2013 Culture Partnership Initiative (CPI): the Entrance to Understand Korea Culture Miss Punnpa Suksakorn: The National Library of Thailand
In 2013, Culture Partnership Initiative Program or CPI was the grand entrance for educated people around the world to understand the beautiful country as my great chance for 6 months in Korea. Korean culture is one of unique culture in the world, in my opinion, the ancient and long history it doesn’t matter but the way of educated people about the wisdom of culture is the most important. Korean culture is significant and identity, in six months program I learned the country such as history, cultural, people, language, weather, festival, society of new era in Korea especially, the national library and other libraries. One of the exited thing for me that was the nice weather and scenery during autumn and winter.
CPI program offered overall Korean history lectures at the beginning.
I educated about background of Korean history, the transformation and discover Korean cultures which were very important background to understand the country from the past until now. For the beginner, I think that CPI was a good starting point of entrance to Korea culture. I understood many things related to Korea culture. Beside the lectures, CPI provided so many activities to learn about the country such as field trip to Gyeongju, I enjoyed that program very much. I impressed about Bulguksa and Sukgulam because I came from Buddhist country so I wished to visit the famous Buddhist temple in Korea during my time. Then the second field trip to Jeju Island was a perfect and wonderful trip at all. It was very famous island for Thai people. It was a very unique island with beautiful atmosphere.
Especially the training and research paper at the National Library of Korea, I was honored to be a trainee with the library because firstly, library is well known in the world with continual of development with new information technology, innovation and etc. that you can learn and apply to your library. Moreover, I visited many famous Korean libraries and institutions in the program that I learned about the outstanding concept for integration the library. Consequently, I improved my knowledge in Library and Information Science, applied into my librarian profession and gain more advantage from extensive my research “Acquisition of Digital Materials of the National Digital Library of Korea” to the “Guideline of Acquisition Perspective of Digital Materials for National Library of Thailand”.
I learned more aspects about Korea and Korean. I think that CPI program is a big experience with a lot of nice memories in my lifetime. Beside the activity of reunion in Thailand, I would suggest that CPI team could organize the conference or champagne to promote CPI benefit to enhance librarian in Thailand join your program that would be more advantage for both of us. Finally, I would like to say forever thankful for CPI program, the National Library of Korea and the National Library of Thailand. Special thanks for my beloved family--Mrs. Rumpha Veerapong and Mr. Sumeth Suksakorn, my mother and father, my professes, for a good advice and encourage, my coordinator, all dear friends and related persons. Without all of you and your kind cooperation and support I could not be here at my best friend and the fantastic country of “Korea”.
